Should i take the free van lol?

So i have been offered a free rust bin of a van by my Grandfather. the van is an old Astro i believe. it is old and rusty but has a lot of new parts of which i am unsure. currently i drive a 2003 mazda protege, however, it is not always available. should i take the rustmobile for emergency transportation? or should i not risk breaking down on the freeway??
