Does anyone know about boilers?

Hi,i moved into my house 6 months ago,i have finally managed to get the kitchen clean it was filthy,the problem is i have this big old boiler on the wall in the kitchen and it looks manky,i have cleaned it but it looks no better,does anyone know if i can paint it with white gloss??
